If we are lucky we will spend with our family and loved ones. As the carol goes, it is the season "to be jolly and to be full of good cheer". The festive season is full of symbolic imagery which is often reflected in the decorations we put up on our trees. It is not unusual for some people to fill their homes on the inside and out with decorations to celebrate these joyous festivities.
Due to the massive commercialisation and advertising during this time of year, the true significance of is frequently lost. People now equate the celebration as a time to give gifts and receive them. Whilst being materialistic isn't a bad thing in its self, this materialistic point of view is magnified tenfold by the constant bombardment by advertisers. This is often portrayed with the happy families sitting around the tree recieving a multitude of gifts.
The importance of is obviously a very personal interpretation. Some people will only understand that this holiday is a time in which one spends money to buy gifts. As long as they don't look deeper into the true spiritual significance they will not get the full benefit this occasion can offer. . For those who view as an exclusively Christian celebration and do not celebrate it, then they will have miss out on a potentially fun time.
Season Of Love
Christmas is actually a representation of the love we universally feel for mankind. Christians have always believed that it is a celebration of the birth of Christ and the renewal of our belief in God and Christianity. However, the love we have for our fellow man is not an exclusive Christian trait and can be felt by many other religions and cultures. It just so happens that the season is widely celebrated by Christians that it is believed to be for Christians only. In actuality, can belong to anyone as long as we express our love for our loved ones and show them that we care for them.
Even though is a christian celebration it is often observed by people of many other religions as a time to unite and recognise the importance of family and generosity of spirit, whether it be materialistic or not. It does no harm to observe the basic principle laid down by the early Christian of loving thy neighbour.
