Why Bother With Card Recycling
is a supposed to be a time of giving and thinking of others, however, this sometimes seems to get lost amongst all the presents and the stress of Christmas. card recycling can be done in several ways. If you have young children, this is a great way to remind them what is about and also to let your children remind some of the adults in the family that sometimes handmade is best.
First Rule To Successful Card Recycling
Always save your cards and put them away with the decorations. Do not put them with your writing paper, you will just get irritated during the year with them and during a clean out you will end up binning them. The best place is definitely with the decorations as the children will find them when just as the season is starting, and this is the best time to start your projects.
Use Card Recycling To Make New Tree Decorations
First you will need to find some cardboard. From this cut out some shapes you can hang on your tree; bells, stars, presents. Then go through the cards from last year and if there are any pictures of Father Christmas, snowmen or anything which is easy to cut out you can simple stick these onto your cut out shapes and then let the children add glitter to them to make them a little bit special. Otherwise you can always use the cards to make paper pompoms to hang on the tree. Firstly you need to cut eight discs out of the card fronts (this is best made with the thinner cards), about four inches in diameter. Fold the bunch of discs in half and staple them down the middle. Holding the pile of discs with the fold vertical, take one layer from each side and staple them together at the bottom. Then pick up a new layer from the left side and staple it to the left top flap. Continue stapling the layers alternatively from top to bottom until you have gone all the way around and now you will have a paper pompom.
Card Recycling To Make Gift Tags
This is the easiest card recycling. Simply cut out shapes from the picture part of your old cards and then add a small hole through which to pull a ribbon tie and then you have your gift tag.
Card Recycling Through Shops
Finally you could always simply drop your old cards off to a shop who is collecting them for charity. This usually works by the shop donating a small amount for every card they collect.
